What is a DEXA scan?
Bone densitometry (DEXA bone scan) is used to measure your bone mineral density. It is a very simple, quick examination that involves taking images of your bone structure to help determine bone status and fracture risk.
Is the exam safe?
Bone densitometry involves an extremely small dose of radiation that delivers less than one-tenth the dosage of a chest x-ray.
How long does a DEXA bone scan take?
Spine or femur measurements take approximately two to five minutes, while total body measurements take approximately 10-15 minutes. Your clinician will determine the examination that is best for you.
Where is DEXA offered?
DEXA is offered at two convenient locations: Women's Imaging Center and TimberRidge Imaging Center.
